10 Questions with Danielle Schiebel from Salute Your Style

Danielle's been on my radar ever since her IG styling page was introduced to me through a mutual friend a few years back, so of course I was thrilled when she agreed to an interview!

A true gal after my own heart, she's a frequent world-traveler, is passionate about helping her clients feel confident, and of course has great taste.

Read on to hear some of her best packing tips, favorite places, product recommendations, and more...

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself...where you're from and where you currently live, how you got into styling in the first place, and anything else you'd like to share...

DANIELLE: I am a born and bred New Yorker; From Queens to Manhattan to now Brooklyn, the pulse of New York has guided my story and ambitions. I have had a full time career in finance since graduating college, but style and fashion have been ingrained in my soul since childhood. It wasn't until the pandemic that I had the mindset of making styling a larger part of my world. It was the quintessential pandemic pivot which has not lost momentum. Nothing fills me more than helping people feel confident, and at ease, with their wardrobe investments.

Q: What are you most passionate about when it comes to your career as a stylist/what do you love most about your job?

DANIELLE: I love seeing my clients shining confidently in an outfit, or wardrobe, we have built together. So many people feel they have nothing to wear, but the truth is they either have too much clothing that no longer serves them, or not enough pieces that can take them from day to play.

"There is intense emotional attachment to wardrobe that isn't discussed enough. The leap from the vision board to the closet is truly a marriage of intention and an open mind. My goal is to open my clients to new silhouettes, color palettes and shapes they could be overlooking, while honoring what makes them feel their most confident."

Q: For anyone struggling to figure out their personal style, do you have any tips or resources of where to start? What do you think's important when developing a signature style?

DANIELLE: The start is a classic vision board. Pinterest and social media (instagram, tik tok) can be valuable sources for inspiration. Whether this vision is collaged traditionally or shared verbally, everyone has pieces, or an aesthetic that "they would love to wear". The key to developing this personal style is honoring your body for where it is today. I have had many clients who keep clothing for 20 years because they want to hold onto a moment. There is intense emotional attachment to wardrobe that isn't discussed enough. The leap from the vision board to the closet is truly a marriage of intention and an open mind. My goal is to open my clients to new silhouettes, color palettes and shapes they could be overlooking, while honoring what makes them feel their most confident. As we grow as humans so does our personal style. It sometimes takes getting uncomfortable to be confident in your closet's abilities.

Q: What are some non-negotiable wardrobe staples that everyone should have in their closet?

DANIELLE: Blazer, white button down, lightweight denim button down, classic white t-shirt, cardigan sweater, leather jacket, quality denim (for heels and flats), trench coat, a longer length wool coat, flats (loafer/ballet), knee- high boot, white or neutral sneaker, pair of hoops, mixed metal jewelry, a midi skirt, a relaxed non-denim pant, statement belt, one pair of soft leggings, 2 or 3 bodysuits

Q: We know you love to travel...what's in your suitcase you can't leave home without?

DANIELLE: The Away Carry-on Flex is a must! Best suitcase I have ever owned. In addition, Packing Cubes, Steamer, Air Tags, Kiels travel size face wash and gel moisturizer, a foldable jewelry case, Tide laundry packs for quick sink washes.

Q: For us chronic over-packers, what's your best advice to pack for a trip without ending up with an overflowing suitcase?

DANIELLE: Planning, planning, planning. I can't stress this enough. We usually overpack because we manage in haste and without intention. Pre-planning your wardrobe in consideration of events, weather and comfort is essential. Organizing looks day-by-day in a neutral palette creates ease of mixing and matching. Start with shoes and build up from there. Leaning into a limit of 2-3 pairs of shoes will help build a strong foundation for your aesthetic.

Q: What are some favorite places you've traveled to around the world and where's next on your list? Any cities in particular that you'd consider best-dressed?

DANIELLE: Japan, Italy and South Africa have been on the top of my travel adventures to date. A wide spectrum of cultural traditions, but each equally as fascinating . Looking forward to a trip to Copenhagen this Fall! Japan is hands down the most stylish country i have visited. Their aesthetic is a master class in quality craftsmanship. The deconstructed silhouettes, monochrome palettes, and emphasis on conceptual design have reshaped how fashion houses approach creativity.

Q: Are there any specific trends you're loving right now?

DANIELLE: This past season I have loved all things sheer! A great fabric to create juxtaposition with everyday T-shirts and button downs. Sheer pieces can be used strategically to add depth and coverage while allowing the base layer to peek through. Another favorite trend from this summer is the multi-use of scarves: from belts to neck ties, to hair wraps, the scarf provides endless opportunities for a pop of color or bold pattern on top of a neutral palette.

Q: What's in your beach bag this summer ? What are some of your must-have products this season?

DANIELLE: Sunscreen is at the top of my list! I am loving EltaMD skincare. I have a Jenny Lemons hair clip in each of my bags this summer! Best for a quick bun on a hot day! RayBan Aviators, A waterproof bag for some toiletries and electronics, Summer Fridays Lip Gloss and many magazines. Yes, I still love the feel of classic magazine reads!

Q: If you had to pick a favorite decade when it comes to fashion, what would it be and why?

DANIELLE: The 70s! I always say i was born into the wrong generation. Bohemian by day, disco glamour by night. This time embodied self expression, texture, movement and a hint of rebellion. There is a reason we saw the romantic-boho renaissance on Chloe's 2025 runway. It is whimsically expressive and embodies feminine freedom.

Q: Thank you so much for sharing this all with us. Where can our audience connect with you, learn more, or work with you?

DANIELLE: Thank you for having me! It has been an honor to collaborate with you! You can find me on IG and Tiktok @saluteyourstyle or on my website - www.saluteyourstyle.com
